I have a confession to make. But first, let me ask you a question.
Have you ever been to one of those paint your own pottery places?
I’ve been…a few times. It can be a fun activity to do with your family. Kids, especially, like the idea of painting something that they can use in their home.
In fact, if you haven’t done it in a while, or ever, put it on your calendar. It’s a good winter activity when it’s too cold to go outside…like when Elsa freezes your town.
Seriously, painting your own pottery really can be fun. The hardest part, though, is deciding what to paint.
First, you stand there in the shop…in front of a shelf full of what seems like infinite choices. Every item is an intimidating, pasty-white, blank canvas. After you finally decide what to paint, you have to figure out how to paint it. I’m often very non-committal, so for me, the task can be a real chore!
Oh, and they have all these cool “examples” of how you can make yours look…as if you could really pull off one of them!
Well, anyway, I went to one of those places recently. And after much wavering, I finally decided to paint a coffee mug. The “what” was taken care of! I mean, you can always use another coffee mug.
Oh, how did I paint it, you ask? Umm, did you see the picture above?
That’s right, that’s right…I made it for myself!
Hey, like I said, choosing something to paint is a tough decision, and I couldn’t think of anything else!
So, I confess…I made myself a “#1 Dad” mug.
Don’t worry, before I used it, I asked my kids if it were true. One of them answered right away and the other thought for a bit, but I’m happy to report that, ultimately, it was a unanimous decision. They confirmed my status as Top Pop! Now that I think about it, though, I’m not sure I asked my wife.
So that’s me…self-proclaimed #1 Dad! (at least in my own house)
What about you? Are you or someone you know the self-proclaimed best of the best? If so, what is it and why? Maybe (to quote my favorite dad rap) you’re “Lord of grill” or “King of the coals.”
And…do you have a mug to prove it??
